My pinhole picture of Asakusa

I was lucky enough to have one of my images printed in the international creators magazine called Eloquence as part of the “TOKYO-GA” project and exhibition. It’s an impressive magazine and very well printed too. I think I can speak on behalf of my fellow artists who also had work shown in this magazine with a warm “Thank you”

Beautiful….it’s…..REAL GRASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Real Green GRASS!!!!!!

Real Green GRASS!!!!!!

Having lived in Tokyo for a good few years now, I’ve sort of got used to the concrete metropolis that it is. There are large parks where you can while away an afternoon in an oasis of green, however due to a large population and high land prices you generally find the closer you are to the city centre, the less green spaces you will see. Around my neighbourhood there are a few tiny parks for kids to play, but there is no grass, just swings, slides, a tree or two, some shrubs and then more concrete.

So today as I strolled along, taking a different route to the station I came upon the above, it was a revelation REAL GREEN GRASS!!!!!! probably no bigger than a few meters square and yet in the sunshine I wanted to sit there and have a picnic, I wanted to be barefoot and feel the green grass between my toes! But seeing as it’s someones private property I took this picture instead and walked on with a smile on my face and a skip in my step. The moral of the story if there is one, is don’t underestimate the colour GREEN.

A rare opportunity!

Kiyoshi Niiyama exhibition

Kiyoshi Niiyama

Currently you have a rare opportunity to see vintage prints created by Kiyoshi Niiyama showing at Gallery Cosmos. Not only is the photography superb but you can also see the artists vision printed by his own hands. I love silver gelatine prints and it’s very rare these days to see such prints outside of a Museum. I highly recommend you visit and see these works for yourself while you can.

Sensouji

Today on New Years day I went to Asakusa to Sensouji Temple for “Hatsumode”. It was pretty busy but the atmosphere was amazing, there is also food stalls all around the Temple so you can have a snack after praying.

Merry Christmas!

December 24th, 2011

On Christmas Eve we had a few friends new and old visit for a casual drink, some food and merry making. We ate mince pies, carrot cake, trifle, sausage rolls and I roasted some Lamb shanks with roast potato’s. We even made party hats. I had a great time and I hope my guests did too! Even Santa made time to drop by before his busy evening of delivering presents!!!!!!!!!
